Joint statement of the Special Communication and Information Security State Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan
We hereby inform that the materials shared on a number of fake social media accounts, allegedly encouraging citizens to invest funds in some investment program on behalf of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and members of his family, are false (“fake”) information.
A fake “interview” created by imitating the design of one of Azerbaijan’s news agencies’ websites is disinformation in nature and forms part of systematic disinformation attacks aimed at polluting the country’s information environment.
We call on society to rely only on information provided by official sources, and we urge journalists and public activists to consistently demonstrate principled positions against such cases and to remain vigilant in an environment where fake and misleading information campaigns are becoming increasingly widespread.
Appropriate measures are being taken regarding the fake material, as well as its source.
