SCISSS conducted a practical training session at the Cyber Polygon

On June 25, 2026, a practical training session titled “Cyber Range Hands-On Exercise” was conducted at the SCISSS Information Security Testing Laboratory located at Baku Higher Oil School. The training was jointly organized by the Special Communication and Information Security State Service (SCISSS) of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Romania’s National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics, with the support of NATO’s “Science for Peace and Security” Programme.

The main objective of the training was to enhance the cybersecurity knowledge and skills of operators, technical specialists, and representatives of government institutions operating in the energy sector, increase awareness of modern threats targeting critical information infrastructure, and improve capabilities for rapid and effective response to cybersecurity incidents.

Within the framework of the practical exercise, representatives of Romania’s National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics delivered presentations on current cyber threats targeting the energy sector, real-world examples of cyberattacks against critical infrastructure, and approaches applied in cybersecurity incident response processes. Participants completed hands-on tasks focused on detecting, analyzing, and responding to cyber incidents based on various simulated scenarios.

A total of 18 participants representing 13 organizations and institutions from Azerbaijan’s energy sector were selected to take part in the training.
