An international conference of centers for combating computer incidents in the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was held in Baku

On November 7, 2017, the opening of the 9th international annual conference "Uncovering Future Threats" of Computer Incident Response Centers of OIC member countries took place in Baku. The international annual conference is regularly held every year in one of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. At the 4-day event, topics such as new generation cyber threats, processing of hidden cyber indicators, new trends in cyber crime, gaps leading to information loss and others were discussed. In addition to discussions, the conference program also includes time for practical training. In the practical training program, the analysis of threats and the demonstration of protection methods were carried out by means of cyber simulations. It should be noted that the organizer of the event was the Special State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, local sponsors were "Delta Telecom LTD" MMM and "Azinfosec", and foreign sponsors were "May Cyer Technology", "THALES" and "Videntifier" companies. It should be noted that the organizer of the event was the Special State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, local sponsors were "Delta Telecom LTD" MMM and "Azinfosec", and foreign sponsors were "May Cyer Technology", "THALES" and "Videntifier" companies. Academic support for the event was provided by ADA University. 97 participants from 21 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, 11 non-member countries, and 140 participants from Azerbaijan were registered at the conference.


Lieutenant General Mursal Valiyev, Deputy Head of the Special State Protection Service and Head of the State Agency for Special Communications and Information Security, opened the event, emphasizing the importance of the event, the risks posed by cyber attacks to the operation of critical infrastructures in a globalized world, and the great attention and care of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to this field and also stated that information security is one of the most priority issues. Emphasizing that the individual activities of countries in the fight against cyber threats are insufficient in terms of effectiveness, he highly appreciated the cooperation of world CERT centers at the international level, including the joint activity of CERTs of Islamic countries. The head of the agency noted that it is possible to achieve greater success in the fight against global and regional cyber threats by combining efforts within the framework of mutual cooperation and exchanging experience in this field. Later, Mursal Valiyev thanked the OIC-CERT management board for the initiative of holding the event in Baku, and said that the tradition of holding annual conferences of International CERT organizations in different countries every year will contribute to the development of relevant fields in those regions and more attention to information security issues.

In his speech, Vajdi Alguliti, director of the Information Technology Department of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, noted that terrorism is a terrible event for any society and said: "Terrorism knows no borders, does not distinguish between religions and nations, and has a destructive nature. We are particularly concerned about cybercrimes and must prevent them. For this purpose, Computer Emergency Response Team have been established for member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in order to fight against such threats. The development of technologies in the modern world makes our life easier. At the same time, these technologies and tools can be used for different purposes and act as a threat to international stability. It is our main task to fight against these threats."

Later, Atesh Rzayev, technical director of Delta Telecom LTD, spoke about the company's work against cyber threats in Azerbaijan.

In the following days, the conference continued its work with plenary sessions. The international conference ended on November 9, 2017.
